Talking with some friends the other night a story came to mind from something that happened long ago.
I was in a movie theater in New York City very late at night. Most theaters are open 24 hrs. I went down to the rest room and I was standing at a urinal when I saw the reflection of a man coming up behind me. The wall was polished marble and the reflection was very clear.
The man coming up from behind was pulling a knife out of his pants and he was going to surprise me and probably try to rob me.
I guess I caught him off guard. I kept staring straight ahead as I raised my finger and told him that the polite thing to do was to wait until I was finished so that I could face him like a man and then we could do whatever it was he wanted to do . He stopped, made some sort of unintelligable sound and spun around and bolted out of the restroom................ God, we had fun back then !

It probably happens here more than in other places because of the amount of drinking of alcohol that takes place , but it seems to me more men hit women than I'm used to seeing ! Granted you don't always know what the circumstances were that led to a attack on a person, but a reasonable amount of force seems more than adequate to stop a woman if she is having her way with you. So, here I was parked on a main street waiting for someone and this young woman is walking on the sidewalk towards my direction. there is a young man walking behind her and yelling at her for some reason or another... He grabbed her by the arm and spun her around and slapped her really hard in the face. She pulled away from him and kept on walking. He kicked her hard in the butt and she turned around to look at him. He yelled at her again and then she turned back in the direction she was coming from and tried to ignore him. He round house kicked her on the left arm and knocked her down to the ground. He stood above her and continued yelling.... I figured that was about enough and it was time to get involved...... There was a policeman stepping out of a 7 - 11 who had seen the whole thing so I relaxed a little and thought this was going to be good............ Well, the policeman just laughed and yelled something to the girl... The guy kept walking, the girl was sitting on the sidewalk and the policeman got on his motorbike and rode off.................... What would you have done

I would have done what you did since there was a policeman there. If the cop rode off and the man continued to beat her,the right thing would be to care of business and leave immediately before another cop showed up. Even if I beat him, he might take it out on her later even worse. Another problem might be the guy comes back with a gun. That happened to a distant cousin of mine. He broke up a fight with a guy beating a woman in a bar in Boston and the guy came back, shot him and now he is paralyzed for life. Tough question. Does one interfere in another country and culture? What would you do if the dude kept beating her after the cop rode off if that was the scenario?

Hi KF "Gang" From the road... Thanks Teach, for the info on websites Hard to write when I don't carry my "Favorites" with me. Using a Mac (versus what I have at home is another challenge!) Teach, I will pass your message to the Santa Cruz Post, with pleasure and HONOR, while I'm in town. Yesterday, I went to WW II "Get together and sing," at the Post. We ran out of (era) songs to sing. Plan on making them a copy of the Vera Lynn music I have on cassette at home. That should keep them singing for a while... I also went to a drumming circle downtown Santa Cruz. Did a bit of KF with a gal who is afraid of guys... The poor thing is "as cute as a button" Dancing away and we improvised some great weapons (self-defense only, of course!) ;D I hope the iota I know about weapons will help her, her self-confidence and knowledge of special points Gotta do what you gotta do!... I finally left the site... we all had great smiles on our faces although... most of the folks there are homeless and hungry. Maybe they chose that path or... maybe don't have a choice. Cost of living in Santa Cruz is outrageous but... they are very creative survivors!!! Yeah! Life is KF... KF is life, huh? PEACE TO ALL Mic

Hi Folks, not sure if this is me or just the meds , but I'd like to ask you a serious question.... If I were standing in front of you , and I looked you in the eye , and said " you know what ... I'm going to kick the nuts out of you ." How would you react ?

Fun question. Fun to visualize. As I think about it a lot depends on how you are standing. and how close. And whether I would want to start it or not. Facing Square or one side on. If we were nose to nose and square I would relax and smile....repeat the mantra internally, sink the breath, look into your eyes and at your feet. One eye for each. I would try to guide your movement by a subtle shift if I could. A turn to the side to draw you in. If I could tell your weakside I would try to use that against you. I would align the feet to bring the knees in to block the undelivered kick. If you leaned in and you seemed ready to go I might try the shoulder spin trick. That might be harder if you leaned in. To start it I might do a drop and push like in the beginning of the animals and the tiger crane. If you were standing with one leg forward (left or right horse) I would watch your eyes and feet. I can imagine scenarios where I would try to block the kick or cream the leading leg. Or step down to break a sweep. Or go right for the throat. If there was more distance I would do the first part above and shift into a "Jack Benny" ready stance.

You are roughly arm distance from someone .. They are facing you squarely..... They are ready to make a move on you .. What tells you what is going to happen , and what is your defense , offense , for what they are thinking of doing. Ex: They are going to use both arms to grab your neck ...........
