You might recognise the above photo... Yes, it is Groucho Marx. He was known throughout the tattoo community as a tattooed man, but he never wanted the public to know it. We all respected his privacy, that is until after his death. If you remember a long time ago his daughter Gilda Marx took his mistress to court so she could gain control of his estate. Before Groucho made it in Showbiz he worked as a tattooed man on a circus sideshow. If you remember, one of his favorite songs was " Lydia, the tattooed lady." You can recognise the German and American flags tattooed across his midsection and the large M on his right bicep which stood for Marx. Malcomb Forbes was another tattooed man..............

I remember when Gary and I were sitting in a coffee shop in Santa Monica and he said there was something he wanted to tell me that was important to him, so I said, you've got aids, he laughed and than I said, So you want to tattoo your whole body and than he said yes. I can remember Gary's first tattoo work and the jokes we started about him like the one where he doesn't have to read a book at night as he could just read his arms That was years ago before he joined the USMC, we were just kids from N.Y. Gary was my inspiration when I first got my sleeve and as a matter of fact, Gary was there in Philly when I made my appointment with Carl Shotshie Gorman for my work to be done in N.J. Gary has always brought a smile to my face

A few years back me and Gary and his family went to Ao Nang Beach in Krabi province to get away from the crazy Songkran festivities up in Pattaya, one day we all got on a boat for a snorkeling trip. At the final stop of the day we tied up alongside another dive boat with a bunch of Korean guys onboard, me and Gary were on the upper deck chatting with this gorgeous blond Swedish dive instructor Eva, all the Koreans talking and pointing towards us. Soon the shipload of koreans left and Gary went down below to grab a couple cold beers for us, Eva who was a bit upset about the Koreans behaviour since she thought it was pretty obvious they were pointing and making comments about her!! To wich I replied; sorry Eva you are gorgeous but they were looking at the old guy next to you

Hello Sifu Gary
When I was first in the millitary and out of boot camp I got drunk with some idiots and wanted to get a tattoo but the tattoo artist refused us because he said it would suck if you got something put on you then and regreted it later when your like fifty years old . sooo I just turned fifty and I want to get a tattoo . I'm sure I will make all of the wrong descissions but I want a big colorful one on my calf and I kinda know what I want but I have to ask you now that your practicing buddhism , is it bad luck to get a religeous icon like Guan Yin or any other bodhisattva ?

Here in Thailand Robert, it is actually good luck to get that theme for a tattoo.. there are still a couple of older temples where the Monks do the work on you by hand with long sticks.. quality isn't great, but they are done for religious purposes............... So, yeah, go ahead !! And send me a picture !

53 centuries ago (about 3300 BC) a man died near what is today the border between Austria and Italy; or the Ă–tztal Alps. The environment was/is very cold and he was probably immediately covered by snow and frost. He was found in 1991 in very, very well preserved condition. He had wounds from a battle or skirmish at the time of his passing; and upon close examination it was found that he had 57 carbon tattoos on his body. Because of the placement of the tattoos it has been speculated that the tattoos are related to acupuncture. A bit tangent: Realize that this is during the 'bronze age' in Europe.. not China; and it might support the idea [that has been suggested in some of Gary's talks] that many of the old arts that we have today, kung fu and acupuncture as two examples of many, well up naturally from within humans and the environment and are far less 'random' than most people might think -- this makes sense -- reminds me of the concepts of archetype and the akashic record. Anyways, I guess I got a bit far afield. Here are some wiki links: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/otzi_the_Icemanen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akashic_recordsen.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArchetypePeace.

I came across this video on youtube that shows Groucho Marx playing tennis with Charlie Chaplin. No tattoos. What's up? www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPHVUHAC-wU

Maybe the photo of Groucho with the tattoos was a fake as a joke. I always thought that photo was real. What do you think Gary?

The photo of Groucho Marx is real. His daughter Gilda had a struggle in the court system in order to gain possesion of her father's rights. He had a relationship with a woman who was his dominatrix. If you take a close look at the photo you'll see that Groucho also possesed many body piercings. In the tattoo community it was known that Groucho was heavily tattooed. In Germany, before coming to the U.S. he had a relationship in the circus with a woman named Lydia. I don't know if anyone remembers the song he loved to sing , " Lydia the tattooed lady."
Body make-up covers lots of indescretions... Did anyone know that Malcomb Forbes had a complete bodysuit ?

Hi Gary
It is also important not to drink cold juices or smoothies. The digestive enzymes operate best in a narrow temperature range around body temp and pumping cold fluid in makes it more diificult for digestion....or so I am told....
