At our age it is advisable to keep the horse moving. Younger students practice the horse in order to build strength. Like we used to say in the Marine Corps " It's hard to hit a moving target ! "

Just a little something personal......... How do any of you feel when you see a civilian carrying a gun..... If it's for no good reason , I strongly feel it necessary to take it away from them........ How many of these useless not a very nice persons have to have a gun , and can't even get into the military... These are the ones , mostly who are packing and , can't wait to get home to put on their cammy's and practice their quickdraws....... Anyone with me on this ?

That's a loaded question!
Who is to be the judge as to what civilian can or cannot carry a fire arms? Where I live, some people have them because of mountain lions, coyotes and bob cats. Others just collect then. In the US, the constitution would have to be amended. Personally, I don't care for them and could not afford them. I'll stick to bow and arrows and darts.

You're right .... A loaded question... I have no problem carrying a gun , if I think I would need it for protection , at a distance , that is .. Carrying a gun is in our constitution. It's ok ! But , not for a punk whose pants are falling down or whose hat is turned sideways !! Thing is , most carry for no good reason than to inflict harm on others. Personally , I like a good knife and a crossbow !

I met some people who were into martial arts. Of course whatever you are studying is the best for you , at the moment. Every different form , every different style , will eventually lead back to a point where there is no real difference in the styles. They have all borrowed from some form or another that was meant to disarm , maim or even to kill another person. Some of us wanted to study whatever we are studying in order to protect ourselves , and our loved ones. Others became interested because of the competition involved . I started off as a little fat kid , who got picked on. My older brother who was a 5 th degree black belt from the kodokan in Japan , decided it was time to teach me to protect myself. The rest is history , and the thought of protecting myself nowadays never crosses my mind. Every person who has ever tried to interfere in my life was simply a person who gave me the opportunity to train with ! Most don't realise what is involved in kungfu. There are endless hours of exercise to strengthen the body . Our school had doubled as a power lifters gym , and people asked why do you lift weights , when you want to learn kungfu ? Because you need to strengthen the body , pure & simple ! Same people asked me , why we did endless hours of mat work , when we were supposed to learn forms... Well , forms are nice , but what to they do ? They teach you how to move , how to react , how to build endurance, how to build balance , etc... So , when asked about matwork , I said that you won't always have the opportunity to be standing . You have to know what to do when you are on the floor. Chin na is grappling , a form of kungfu that isn't really taught in schools . Should be ! Anyway , I guess I'm just rattling now. Does anybody who is reading this have anything to add , or disagree... I'd like to get people to start talking about what they study , and why ... That would be interesting to everybody......

Hi Gary
I slso started because my brother wanted me to be tougher. He wrestled and played football in high school and decided I was skinny and weak and an embarassment to him. So, he got me started wrestling. Later, he took me to hapkido with Sea Oh Choi. But the drive from Malibu to Long Beach was too much. I fought a few times in elementary school and usually won. I lost a fight in 7th grade and realized I needed to learn more. I studied some jiujitsu with the Belzer's and Marcinkus (I didn't know it was Pat's school). I stopped because I didn't get past the headaches from the mat work. Some years passed and I was looking for something. I tried to teach myself Tai Qi out of a book with no luck. I had driven past our old school countless times and one day stopped in. I was completely captivated by the forms and by your matter-of-fact welcome. Haven't yet found anything I want to do more.

Hi Gary I like the videos and I like the idea of doing the basics step-by-step. It seems to me that people either rush to learn form or they want to fight, without learning the basics - horse, breathing, conditioning, stances, exercises, meditation, power forms, etc.

Hi, I am new to this forum and I wanted to say hello and thank you . I have studied CLF and Muay Thai boxing. There are many places to learn in N.Y. City but there was not many I would want to join. Most of the teachers who are good eventually move out of the City and either move to California or Florida. Most seem to gravitate towards warmer climates. Gary, I remember 43 years ago ... I walked in to your CHOY LI FUT Shaolin Temple school on santa monica and bundy. This is Carlos, I talked to you a few years ago. Im so glad that you are still here showing the real energy of Ark Y Wong Kung Fu ... I learned Jeet Kune Do from Danny & Richard @ Bruce Lee Academy 1977 & then Jimmy Woo Wu Shu Gung Fu in Hollywood 1979. 2005 I joined Ninja Samurai Grand Master Masaki Hatsumi Tokyo Japan. Choy Li Fut set the foundation for life ... the rest came full circle in a box ... The circle in the box is my Kung Fu Gung Fu. like the water, I become myself ... The Iron sand palm and Tiger hands is what I transformed into a strikes you cannot see ... the Tiger hands can create a illusion while the palm will strike a Iron blow ... 1 inch punches I do now for many years ... I was able to use Bruces one inch punch machine ... its taboo to all @ IMB but Ive been using it since 77 ... It has a iron coil like a car shock that holds a wood varnished huge size swatt mallet that will break your arm or face in pieces ... the one inch punch pad triggers a mallet strike. I feel that SIFU Gary, really prepared me for the future of Martial Arts ... I also knocked out the world kickboxing champ Cecilio Davilla in 1977 @ Bruce Lee Academy. When it comes to Kung Fu, Gung Fu, JKD or the sword ... Gary, Richard Bustillo, Danny Inosanto & Masaki Hatsumi made me in the arts forever ... Gary I still do astral projection since I learned @ your school in 73 ... Maybe I can figure out Thailand in Dragon fly by ... lol mucho love and please let me know when you are coming to Ca ... I need to see you again while we still are here ...
