Jay, I don't think any of the guys onboard does martial arts, under my 18 years at sea I think I bump in to two guys who claimed to do karate, but I'm pretty sure that was mostly in their dreams... On the other hand a person who would be really serious about martial art wouldn't hang around the dayroom bragging about it.... Working onboard a ship some things are best kept a secret. Basement Bob? Never heard Gary mention him, although he told quite a few stories over the years... If we are lucky he might post a few tatto stories in his tattoo section.

Basement Bob was a real charactor. He used to tattoo at sunset Strip Tattoo and we ( Jay & I . ) finally talked him into joining us at Stoner Park for our workouts... Practicing kung fu onboard ship would be great, and a real test of ability. Have to remember the stories of the " Red Ships. "

Hello all, I am new to the forum, but I've had the pleasure of knowing Gary since 1987 - his good old coffee drinking UCLA days Linda Lee here. I normally don't join forums, but I am finding myself searching for more understanding of the forms. I was please to find a video on YouTube of the power form, but was wondering about the progress of the video shot this last march. It would be really great to have a visual cue - for those of us who can't consistently make it to Stoner Park. This is a great site Gary, thanks for making it easy to keep in touch!

Hey Linda, Nice to finally see you here! I had written you a PM, months ago but.. you did not open you mail for a few more months so... I deleted it. I am practicing what I have learned thru the years and then... still learning plenty more. I practice with a friendly group of MA folks of different background but we are all open to share and learn from one another. There are 2 teachers: Mike N. and Ben Z. Ben is fond of the "old forms" (as he calls them) I practice. I sometimes help with some moves and suggestions that are always welcome. I also play with Rubber Rob and Ron-a-Muk: the rubber and wooden dummies. I let them receive my frustration of the week and they take it without complaining! ;D To answer your question, publically, visualization of "what the other side is doing" is much clearer now. It only took me a few years! Hey Gary, you did not mention me in the list of pal/gals in the class but... that's OK... we'll always have Paris, huh? Ha ha! Gary, you avoided answering Linda's question about the filming by Zig... Where are we with that project??? Can someone answer that question? Hugs to all, Mic

Just a question for everyone reading this forum, whether you are part of our physical group or not. Nobody responds to anything. there are plenty of people who look at this daily, but never comment. Is there anybody out there that works out ?

Here is my answer, Teach. Computer time is very consuming. We have e-mail, Hi-5, the forum, You-Tube, and some other forum(s) or Web favorites. Personally, I find it hard to ask a question either by number in a form or by name of the move, just because I am a VISUAL who need to SEE and DO. I practice Kung Fu with a group that does another style and I prefer ours. I do enjoy warming up with the Yi Jin Jing form, then I do our forms, practice 3 stars, stretch some more, kick and punch a wooden or rubber dummy or do weapon defense techniques with one of the instructors or get my back adjusted by the other instructor . The rest of my days, I put KF in practice through whatever I do, including in the shower/bath stall or brushing my teeth, by doing horse and cross stances and arms exercises too. I don't think it has happened on our forum but, on another one, someone gets offended because I disagree with his/her thoughts or actions and anything I might write gets ignored. So, why waste my time? As you know, I have been in a survival mode for months. I also do the jobs of a man and a woman, in my pad and I have even re-done the piss-poor jobs than contractors have done. When, I see you in person, others have questions too. This year, I could only be there for a week and it went like a blink. As far as meditating, I find it hard to stay still to meditate so, in the winter, I meditate while I shovel snow and in the summer, I meditate while using the rake, and make up my own forms, as well. I am greatful to have had Kung Fu as part of my live for so many years. It is just very hard to be a long distance learner. That is FOR SURE! Let's see if and what others have to say. Signing off with a big THANK YOU. ;D

Hi Sifu Gary
Sorry I have not come in here for a while . I wanted you and the forum to know that since I had my big incident at the bowling alley last year I noticed that my work out as a whole has increased in it's intensity . I believe this is a result of my experience and the fact that I have added meditation to my routine . I try to meditate about half as much as I work out and do forms . the meditation before work out helps me focus and the meditation right after helps me calm down . I first meditate in a horse stance under a sprawling Japaneese Maple and end my work out in a lotus possition under the same tree . I am very fortunate to have my own 8 X 16 foot wooden structured Kwoon and a rock garden to work out in and meditate .
Robert

I don't think luck , or being fortunate had anything to do with it Robert . Things always happen because they were supposed to , whether for the good or for the bad. sometimes it's only meant as a test to strengthen ourselves, such as your incident . The group that has formed around our kungfu training is more than just a group of people that get together to workout. Remember, " No matter where you go , there you are . "
